Hybrid Coffee

F1 hybrids were developed in the 1990s by CATIE, CIRAD, and PROMECAFE. After more than 15 years of research and validation, they were commercially released due to their high productive potential (30–50% higher than currently used commercial varieties), vigor, and adaptability to adverse climate conditions such as drought, waterlogged soils, and frost. They also offer excellent cup quality. These hybrids represent a significant advancement for the coffee industry, as they are superior plants resistant to coffee leaf rust with an exceptional cup profile. Their flavor and aroma are considered delicious compared to many traditional varieties.
