Pineapple

The pineapple, Ananas comosus, was named after the term “ananás,” which comes from the Tupi language of Brazil and means “delicious fruit.” The pineapple plant is as unique as its fruit, as it typically produces only three pineapples on average throughout its lifetime, with the first one usually being the largest. Fortunately, through micropropagation, the necessary plants can be obtained to continue enjoying this fruit, as over the last 100 years, it has become one of the main fruit crops in the tropics, with annual growth in production and exports of up to 4%.
